We are trapped, in a weird foreign city, and we’re rapidly running out of things to talk about. It’ll be fine I said. We, two not quite children but not really adults, can travel on foot from the centre of Paris to its outskirts in a few hours, hitch a ride with a friendly beret, striped jumper wearing poet, and be out of Paris and on with our wonderful adventure. This city has us now. We can see it, feet sore and souls tired, the outskirts at the very edge of our vision. Breaking out in a mad run, we make one last desperate attempt to reach escape velocity. Paris starts… knitting itself. Buildings shuffle to arrange bricks wire and mortar – they propagate and spawn. This city is growing outwards, exponentially fast. Faster than we can run away from it. Our universe has closed in on itself.
